Egypt has thwarted a plot by soccer fans to attack Israeli coach Avram Grant at a game later this month in Alexandria, by detaining suspects and issuing a warning.
But another group of fans has also threatened to try and bar his entry to the country when he arrives for a November 13 match in Alexandria.
Grant, 61, a former coach for Israel now coaches Ghanas’a national team, which is playing against Egypt’s squad in Alexandria next week.
Security has been tightened ahead of the match on the assumption that Grant will come with his team to the game. Fans have been demanding that he be barred from entering the country,
Egypt was the first Arab country to sign a peace treaty with Israel, in 1979, but anti-Israeli sentiments have been rife since former president Hosni Mubarak was toppled by a popular revolt in 2011.
