Power cut provokes Channel Tunnel rail chaos

The Channel Tunnel was closed to rail traffic around 3pm on Tuesday afternoon as a power cut in the tunnel caused long delays for passengers.

“Our trains are currently delayed because of overhead power supply problems in the Eurotunnel,” the company wrote on its website.

A spokesperson said on the official Twitter account that they could not give an estimate as to how long the trains would be delayed.

The company said no trains were stuck in the tunnel itself.

Eurostar was forced to cancel several services and passengers in London were asked to delay their journeys in a sign that the disruption to traffic would not resolved quickly.

Passengers are advised to visit the company’s website for more details.

The company had no idea when services would be back running again, but Eurotunnel, the company which operates the Channel Tunnel was hoping services would be operating by 5pm.
